Don Mazerolle, Fredericton Chito-Ryu Karate Club Founder and Chief Instructor
Don Mazerolle has been studying Chito-Ryu Karate since 1976. Curious about martial arts in general, Don happened to come across Robert McInnes and Chito-Ryu Karate in Hampton, New Brunswick…and the rest as they say, is history.
In 1985, Don relocated to Fredericton New Brunswick where he continued his studies on Fredericton’s north side. It was around this time that he met fellow Chito-Ryu student and wife-to-be, Kathryn Douglass.
In 1990, with Kathryn, Don opened the New Maryland Karate Club and has been the chief instructor ever since. Now in 2016, the club is called Fredericton Chito-Ryu Karate, and students enjoy studying under Don’s tutelage at the New Maryland Elementary School.
Chito-Ryu Karate is a family passion in the Mazerolle household. Don is a 7th dan black belt (Renshi), while Katheryn is the highest ranking female student in Canada, holding a 5th dan black belt (Renshi), and their son Laurie currently holds a 2nd dan black belt.
Some of Don Mazerolle’s credentials include:
– Renshi – 7th dan black belt, Chito-Ryu renshi
– 2nd dan black belt, Ryukyu Kobujutsu
– Pan American “A” Class Referee
– Karate Canada Technical Committee Member
– Karate Canada Officials Committee Member
– National Chito-Ryu Technical Committee Member
